The Baby Boomer generation is closing in on the big one…65 years of age! Some of us have already made it there or left it behind. This means we now qualify for Medicare as our primary source of health insurance coverage.
You may be under the impression that Medicare is voluntary; that you have to “opt in” for Medicare coverage. Medicare is not voluntary. When you reach 65 years of age, Medicare Part A (hospital coverage) takes effect, whether you want it to or not. Part B (doctor coverage) and Part D (drug coverage) are optional but require additional premiums.
Even with parts A, B and D, Medicare does not cover everything. There are deductibles and coinsurance to meet. Plus, a lengthy hospital visite could actually completely deplete your Medicare benefits.
